Clamshell/Blister Pack at Cabelas?

I was at Cabelas today and saw something I had never encountered before, what appeared to be a combo edge Tenacious black blade in one of those plastic/cardboard packs like many Kershaw (and other) brands come in. I have never seen/heard of Spyderco using these before; what made it even weirder was that it never identified the model as a Tenacious, the front just said Spyderco and the back had all the generic stuff like the boxes have on the ("Trademark round hole" etc). Of course, being Cabelas, it was being sold at full MSRP

Not sure how I feel about this...

Spyderco has been using clam packs since the late 90's. Mostly for sales to military PX stores, but also for sales to some civilian chain stores.

The ones in the PX were combo edge Endura and Delica. These were the only Spyderco knives I knew about until 2012.

My second spyderco was purchases in this very same fashion... Endura combo edge.

Well then, I guess I am the one who was late to the game about these, I was not aware that Spyderco sold knives in that packaging format. In general, I'm not a fan of that style, it seems so...Gerberish...but I also certainly appreciate the market for it. I really don't think the people paying full MSRP for combo edge models at Cabelas (or similar) really have a good understanding or appreciation for knives in general, and that's fine (for them).

I hope Spyderco sells all of the clamshell packed knives they produce, every cent of profit they make helps to contribute to R&D and other expenses that give us phenomenal knives like the PM, Endura etc. and I'm fine with that...but I'll take my Spydies in boxes.

This is very true. The only Spydercos in PX/BX stores are clamshell packed partially serrated Enduras and partially serrated Delica 4s. Believe me, I check ever week hoping upon hope for a plain edge Delica 4 to wind up on the peg, but No Joy. In fact I seem to recall my previously purchased Spyderco Enduras were bought in the PX and packaged in a clamshell pack back in 93-94.
