Hi there everyone. I have recently acquired a kelly perfect axe from my brother in laws farm. I’m hoping someone can give me a better understanding of the year it was made. It only has the one stamp on it. Saying Kelly axe and tool co. st Catherine’s Ontario. Made in Canada. Which is being real difficult to find history on. Also if I could find out the type of axe it was used for. I have cleaned it up and planning to re handle it soon. How long should the handle be?. It does have a large chip behind the blade which I’m hoping doesn’t affect the axe. It wont get heavy use more of a camping axe. I know it has some history as the farms had 3 generations of farmers on there and now has four. Thanks again for your knowledge. I think I can see a very faded print. Not sure if I can use a fine wet sandpaper to enhance this print due to the wear on the axe.

Ok, do some searches and see when Welland Vale was producing/distributing axes for True Temper / Kelly

I'm pretty sure that Welland Vale was in St. Catherine's Ontario and I'm pretty sure that they were bought by Kelly/True Temper at some point - so if you figure out when that was, then you'll know when about your axe was made.
