Clarification...

I recently had a thread closed, and was issued a warning because I posted a thread in the general forums asking other forum members what they thought the value of some knives were that I'm going to sell. The reason the moderator closed the thread was "selling without paying membership". There was no mention of me selling any knives on bladeforums. I know I'm not a paying member and am not allowed to sell here. I mentioned in my thread that I wanted input on what I should sell my knives for, but never mentioned I was selling them here. I have seen many threads asking others what the value of a knife or knives are and they were never closed.

The moderator wrote that I am not even allowed to discuss what I have to sell. I dont understand why.

Could someone clarify the rules for me? I went through a lot of forum rules threads last night and couldn't find anywhere that a registered member isn't allowed to even discuss knives that he wants to sell.

All I want is opinions on what some knives are worth. If I re-word my intentions, can I get the thread re-opened?

Thanks

The reason your thread was closed is because what you are asking can prompt a sale behind closed doors.

By posting the knives you have, and asking values, someone can email you, and say they'll buy it. You then conduct yor business behind the scenes. You have then effectively used Bladeforums to sell your knives, without paying the appropriate membership. That is against the rules, and not fair to the individuals who pay their dues, and help keep this site up and running.

If you need to know what your knives are worth, visit the manufacturers website, visit knife retailers websites, and look in the exchange for what other knives sell for.

If you'd like to pay for a Gold membership, then you have the priveledges to sell here in the appropriate forum. Until then, you are on your own. We don't offer a free lunch here.

Your thread will remain closed.

Best regards.

If you do a search for completed listings on ebay for your make, model and condition, you can see the internet value for your knives. It is a valuable tool if you want it to be. It will most likely be the best place for you to sell your knives.
