Folks... It's mindblowing what you can get at your local Walgreens, Rite-aid or CVS. I've been overlooking this stuff for decades, just passing it up. For not a lot of money you can get some smashing grooming products locally. Here's just a few. I'm still on the upswing of the learning curve...

Real Shaving Company shave cream. Dudes, this stuff is the "be all end all" of tube type shave creams. Seriously. I've been using it in the shower to scrape my brain bucket. Great lubriscity, wonderful mild scent, beats the pants off any other shave cream I've tried by a country mile. Made in England and yours for not much more than a five spot if you catch it on sale at CVS. Look for this product. It's a STEAL even when it's not on sale.

Headblade mentholated shave cream. This unscented cream comes in a squeeze bottle. It's super slick and has enough menthol to let you know it's in there but it's not overpowering. Truly NO scent. None. Great lubricity and not runny. Won't get into your eyes. It's like it was MADE for headshaving in the shower, which it probably was. A little pricey but it goes a long ways so 8 bucks gets you a bottle that will last and last. Look for this stuff on closeout at your local Kmart. I've seen it 1/2 price at two kmarts. So I stocked up. I won't be needing any until the spring of 2019.

Pinaud Clubman aftershave. Get this stuff. Been around longer than your grandpappy's DeSoto. Wonderful scent and just enough burn to open your peepers in the AM without jerking tears out of them. The pleasant scents lasts til lunch easily and you don't smell like you just came from an airport bathroom, because even when it's strong it's subtle. What a smashing bargain at six bucks.

Bump fighter razor. This thing is marketed toward African American males that suffer from shaving irritation. Buy this razor, throw the included cartridges away and keep the handle. It accepts the old Trac II cartridges and it is of suprising quality for a five spot. TracII carts are available at basically any store and they are among the cheapest in the cart world. Before the Atra, there was the TracII. This gets you into one for five bucks and change.

Headblade Head Lube. Like the label says, "use your head, buy this lube". What a no-brainer. This stuff is awesome. If you're like me you HATE moisturizing creams because they are a smelly greasy mess. Well, this stuff is TRULY unscented and not greasy in the least. It's only "spreadable" for mere moments. Once you have it rubbed on it sinks in and it's GONE. Not just for your chrome dome either. Yep that's what it's marketed for but I've rubbed it on my face with stunning results. Highway robbery (for the customer) at 8 bucks a copy. I got mine on closeout for half that. Get some.

There's gotta be more. Post 'em here. Let's have a cheapskate shaver's thread! :D

I'm sorry to disagree with you on this one. After seeing it mentioned frequently online, I bought a bottle of this stuff at Walgreens. I threw it away after one use. It smelled like those urinal deodorant blocks in restrooms. Maybe that's how French men want to smell, but not me. As I threw it away, fortunately, my regret was small because the stuff was cheap and it would probably -- not definitely, but probably -- improve the smell of the landfill.

But, on the other hand, just one shelf up from it is Aqua Velva, a great American classic for cheap. That's how American men are supposed to smell.

You can always use Clubman to sterilize vintage razors, or to get the stink out of a new brush. I bought some after hearing so much about it. It smells a lot like Brut. My wife hates it. She likes my Aqua Velva, Master Bay Rum, Old Spice, Aramis, and British Sterling enough for me to wear them around her. She says the Clubman smells like an old man.
I have about 5 of the glass bottles of Aqua Velva Ice Blue. Haven't tried the Musk yet. In the store, the musk had a smell that made me think of seedy used car salesman, and hairy chested guys from the disco era, unbuttoned collar, gold chains, cheesy mustache, leisure suits, the whole 9 yards.
Maybe I should try some anyway. It probably smells different on me than it does in the bottle. I just couldn't get past the late 1970s flashback.

Aramis has a nice cooling effect with some peppery thing going on after a little while. I may have to dilute mine, as it has a little too much strength of scent and staying power for the amount I like to use after shaving.
