Here’s a Bowie I call "Dressed-up Cowboy Bowie" which Steve Dunn made for me in the spring of 2005. Coop shot it for me at the recent BLADE Show.

It has beautiful sambar stag scales on a frame constructed coffin shaped handle. Steve, of course engraved and gold inlayed it. Quite a bit of gold as you can see. Gold was only a fraction of it’s cost today when this piece was made. I love the outstanding mosaic damascus blade on this dress bowie.
OAL – 11-3/4”
BL – 7”

I thought this display worked out pretty well with my Haley DesRosiers JS Test Hunter from BLADE.
Doesn't cost much to make these displays, but does take a little effort/time.

Handle: Very nicely contoured Desert Ironwood
Bolster: Filed w/spacers
Sheath: Fitted crossdraw sheath by Haley
OAL: 9 1/4"
BL: 4 1/4"

That's a fine looking little hunter. You've displayed it very well too.

Love 'em both. Steve Dunn has the classic bowie nailed and his engraving is always superb. Clean, tasteful embelishment on a fine bowie.

I'm also REALLy drawn to that Haley DesRosiers piece. The lines and proportions on that knife are just sublime. I like the display you made for it too but somehow I think that knife wants to get out with you and cut something

Wow. Everybody's got their talents. So do you, Kevin!

The knives are testimony to upper quality.

Great display stand. So warm and accommodating.

Classic Dunn, and soon to be classic DesRosiers.

Haley has a real head start on blade and handle shape. Her little hunters are already sought after.

Kevin that's quite an elegant stand...I may plagiarise your design for our castle.

Thanks for the encouragement friends :)

I really like the Dunn. It is beautiful.
Haley's work is just so so..................... I only wish I could have purchased both test sets from her and Adam!!
Why couldn't I be born rich!!!!

Great pics Kevin! And great score with that HD piece! (HD can be for Haley DesRosiers or High Definition or both)! :) I like the display stand as well.

Steve's damascus and engraving are first rate and Haley is doing super nice work, of which this piece is a fine example.

Two great knives, Kevin. I was really impressed with Haley's work at Blade. That handle on her hunter says comfort just looking at it.

I always enjoy your display stands. A super way to keep the collection out of the safe.

Love that Dunn Kevin! Steve does great work and that is a fine example! Great looking stag and damascus too.

The stand looks great with Haley's knife. Well done!

Thanks Kevin for posting the pictures. And thanks to everyone else for your kind words.
Great looking knife you got from Haley, love the display stand.

Always energizing when you give a knife you've owned for a bit the Coop treatment.

The Dunn is sweat and Haley's knife is super clean.

Darn, I wish I had fabrication skills like you, Kevin. Display looks really nice.

Haley's knife looks great on that display you put together. The Dunn is very nice and it is always a pleasure to see his work. Very nice indeed.

I agree Wolf, there's a LOT of embellishment on this Dunn Bowie, however Steve's one of the best at maximizing fine embellishments and achieving full aesthetic potential without his pieces appearing over done.

I would be seriously tempted to carry Haley's piece if it were not for my being crazy about my little Hanson EDC.

Joe, you’re right, this hunter is extremely comfortable in hand. Rare for a newer knifemaker to create handles like this so early. However Haley’s had a good teacher.
Proportions, profiles, aesthetics, are of course all very important; however at the end of the day, what good is a knife if the handle isn’t comfortable?

Thanks Rob, buts it's not all that difficult. I find the most challenging part is designing a display that complements the knife/sheath as opposed competing against it for the eye's attention. Colors, textures need to blend as much as possible and the apparatus needs to position the knife/sheath to best highlight of their attributes. It's hard to find knife displays commercially that accomplish this.
