A 12cm Forge De Laguiole. There is something about the flow of laguioles that gets me in.
Horn tip & Brass. I was a bit hestitant as they use T12 stainless which I don't know much about. I confess as a bloke that has owneds a lot of customs I've become a steel snob, I know I'm not alone:p:D
What swung in it's favour I found a smaller dealer in Aus that had comparable price to the European listed price & he threw in shipping:thumbup:
I'm glad I did I had read good things.
The fit & finish is very good, Ilike the filework, the horn tip is solid with a good texture too it. The snap is very solid. it did come sharp. 1 detail that I do like is from the clip forward the blade is thinned out should make for a good slicer.

As I said previously I don't know much about T12 & how well it holds an edge. I like to have a smaller 1 handy so I've paired it up with my Alistair Phillips linerless slippie in 01.
Cheers

I could be mistaken but I think T12 could be somewhat compared to 12C27 wich is quite a decent steel.

Anyways, a handsome knife for sure!

I love a laguiole! Good job, in fact, as I have a few :)

That's a nice one. Very pretty bit of horn.

I have found myself fancying a 10cm frame. Something like a medium sized toothpick, but with the trappings too, and good for coring apples :D

I like the frenchie slippies like yours (yours is a beaut btw)..... I have a 10cm one made with 440c and juniper burl handle. They feel good in the hand and carry nice too.

If this is your first be aware that if you let the blade snap closed into the handle the edge will hit the spring and be damaged.

Classic is right. I have a 11cm Laguiole, but it's been appropriated by my wife. She uses it to cut fruits and such for lunch at work. Although it's larger than the slipjoints I myself carry, she hasn't received any negative comments. I think the beautiful brass and horn handle, combined with the elegant blade shape sets people at ease. Not only is the Laguiole classic, it's also classy.

They are so cool. I was fingering an 11cm with gorgeous stag at a store up on the North Shore this fall and really wanting to pull the trigger on it. It was so calling out to me. Unfortunately I was getting the stinkeye from my wife pretty bad so to keep marital peace while on vacation I didn't do it. :(

Thanks for the all kind words!
I think the T12 will hold a good edge, used it yesterday & cut up some vegies, held it's edge.I would like an 11cm too but the horn was just too nice. He is getting another shipment in Jan so.........:D

Stevo- yeah not my first, it was a problem, most of the companies have addresed the issue & list in the spec sheets that blade stops are now used. Althogh I still never snap any shut;)

That is an intriguing knife; I have never had the opportunity to hold a Laguiole and I am reluctant to buy one, as I really know nothing about them. If I had a chance to read up on them and handle a few I would probably get one ( I use the number "one" loosely ;))

Congrats! That's a fine French knife!

I have a close relative of your Laguiole. Mine was a Christmas present a few years ago from my brother-in-law. I sometimes bring it along on fishing trips. It has really good walk & talk as you mentioned and is a fine slicer.

Does anyone know how the several companies currently making these knives rank in terms of quality? Thanks.

I'm going to lock this thread & stat a laguiole thread.
