I sent in my Case Peanut for a new blade it came back 1 month later. In that time the only knife I bothered to carry was my Alox classic. Wow is all I can say.
Does any here carry ONLY that on purpose?
Smaller & lighter than Peanut, what's the most you've done with it or think you can do with it?

Wow ..... just wait until Carl (jackknife) reads this one - a Peanut and a Classic SD in one thread!!! ;) :D

To answer your question, I've never carried just a Classic, but if the truth be known it could probably handle 90 - 95% of what I need to do on any given day. I happen to carry a Rambler instead of the Classic, but any of the little 58mm SAK's have to have just about the best utility vs. size/weight ratio of anything on the planet.

Ohhh, I think somebody needs to pass the smelling salts! So much exitement at this age!!

You really need to talk to Karen, my better half on this issue. Karen is the official classic tourturer in this house. She does everything but put it on the rack. I only became an enthusiast of the mighty mite after watching Karen do her worst to a classic for a year, and it never broke. Got loose some, but never catastrophicaly failed.

After watching Karen, I started my experiment of carrying one, and making a point of using it before my other bigger knives. It did about 98% of what needed to be done.

The only time I carried a classic as my only knife, was at Karen's cousin's reunion that was held in Key West for the first time in 2003. I hadn't flown since 9-11, and didn't know what to expect, so I left all the cutlery at home, planing on a visit to the local 'mart for a cheap knife to carry for the vacation. We were packing light and didn't plan on checking any luggage. Planning on living in swim trucks and Teva sandles we didn't need to pack a real bag. The first day, we're at the beach, and we had some sandwiches from a local shop, and I go to open a mayo packet, shortly after putting on sunblock. No way that was going to work. Karen says "Here, try this." and hands me her classic from her purse. I look at her and ask where the hell that came from, and she says it was in her make-up kit. It got lost in the x-ray of lipstick tubes, compact, and stuff. Karen walted right through TSA with it in her purse. For the next 5 days it was my only knife in my pocket, and it did just fine. It not only cut stuff, but the tweezers picked out a thorn from the bottom of a nieces foot, opened a few packages, trimmed a broken nail, and other sundry duties.

The only place where the little classic fell short was food duty. Not a long enough blade for bread and cheese. But we made do. The Sd tip on the nailfile works well on small to medium phillips screws like on GE toasters and Kenmore clothes dryers. You'd be surprise at the stuff I've fixed using a classic. I made a little leather pouch sheath so I can carry the classic on my keys, but take it out unattached so as to use it better.

I imagine it would do for a city or suburban dweller who just needs a wide mission capable pen knife. Yesterday we went downtown in D.C. to the National Gallery Of Art for a Gauguin exibit that is on loan, and I carried only a classic because of museum security. I lived through the day just fine.

One member here called the classic the pen knife of the 21st century. He just may have been right!

No,not as an only knife. But,have a Classic and a Rambler on my keychain.I find the tiny Phillips on the Rambler to be useful for tightening the screws on my new reading glasses.

I've mentioned it before - but I have, on a bet, gutted and skinned a deer with a "Classic"
It is my "go to" knife!
Peace
Revvie

Ya know, thinking a little more on this, is that this is a prime example of us being knife knuts. We knife knuts being nuts, over do and over think this thing. What about the rest of society that is using a key to cut thngs, and does not even carry a knife? A sak cllassic is light years ahead of a key, or ball point pen, yet to us jaded knife freaks, we're shocked that a little 58mm sak could possably make it through the day in our pocket. No CR sebanza, or lastest light speed assisted tactical needed for just real world day to day life in suburbia.

Sometimes it's nice to wake up and smell the coffee.:D

The pen knife of the 21st Century is definitely a handy dandy little bugger. I have, on MANY occasions, carried one, and nothing else. Sometimes, I carry two. One in my pocket, and one on my keychain. These little guys are so handy, and so inexpensive, you can make sure you are always covered by putting one in your pocket, on your keys, in your desk, in your glove compartment, etc. I love mine, and no matter what else I carry in my pockets, it seems that the Classic is always what i reach for first. It is sheeple friendly, loaded with functionality, and with it's thin little cutting blade, a laser that makes quick work of chores a knife it's size has no business tackling. It's handle is a bit small, but it can still do all you need it to if you just use your noggin a little.
My most used knife, I love the Classic.

The Classic is a great model. Last week I bought a backup alox Classic. It doesn't have the toothpick and tweezers, but still has a useful set of functions in a very small and thin package. If I'm going to a place where knives aren't appreciated, I carry that one. A SAK is just too handy to leave home, even a small SAK like the Classic.

i once carry only ramble as an EDC pen knife for a couple of years, and it does the job respectably...

to be honest i begin to respect 58mm models more and more becouse of carl (jackknife) and this addicting forum hehehe...

now days, i actually really love the 74mm models and never leave home without the companion on my wallet (its a money clip without the clip, and its in red alox)

i mostly only carry a rambler anymore. sometimes i'll back it up with a larger knife, but 28 days out of the month, it's all i've got. the short blade does well enough at everything i want it to do from slice a sandwich in half to peel an apple and the little scissors are surprisingly good at cutting pesky plastic zip ties.

here is my official edc with the rei whistle, streamlight nano, and yellow rambler...
