Classic Sebenza, with serrations or without?

I'm really having trouble deciding whether or not my large Classic Sebenza should be ordered with or without serrations? What does everyone think? Are they all that necessary?

Thanks!

Ditto. For daily chores - letter opening to apple peeling, serrations are a pain. If my job was Garden Hose Cutter, I'd have serrations. Otherwise, not for me. :)

I'd go (and have gone) for plain edged Sebbies. I'd say don't get them on your knife unless you will be cutting a ton of cardboard or rope. Spyderco excells at this! Plain edges also look cleaner. Sebbies are clean in their lines.

I agree with most here, don't get serrations on a large classic. I do have large regular with the zulu serrations. But this is general purpose knife intended for field use. The good thing about Chris's zulu serrations is that sharpening them only requires normal sharpening techniques.

The fighter style blade of the Classic doesn't really call for serrations. It's(the classic)is more tappered blade and probably wouldn't do the knife justice like the large Regular.

I have a large regular with the Zulu serrations. I like it alot. One of the things that I really love about CRK serrations, is that the serrations are on both sides of the knife.

I've never used a CRK with serrations so can't speak to their cutting performance, but aestheticly the plain edge Sebenzas just look alot better to me. I have the occasional need for cutting rope and such where serrations excel. I still carry a plain edge Sebenza but keep a fully serrated Spyderco (like a Calypso) nearby for those occasions. Just my 2 cents.

The Seb cuts so well that serrations are really not necessary. I wanted the serrations on my large micarta Seb that I ordered from CRK due to the fact that I need a left handed one and Mike at CRK talked me out of it. I think they look cool but the knife looks cleaner without them.;)

Neat! I didn't know that! I gotta store that bit of info away for future reference. Thanks!

I think nothing can cut better than an optimally sharp plain edge. Even my friends who are law enforcement officers who cut seat belts to rescue people say they would value a razor sharp plain edge over a serrated knife.

LOL...

Okay, you have all convinced me! I just ordered a Large CLASSIC Sebenza (plain edge) with silver thumb lug and silver spacers from True North. It should be here on Tuesday. I'll post pics once it arrives.

Thanks for all of the great feedback!

Wise choice :)
I'm falling back into the fold myself, this week possibly, it will also be a
large Classic but with inlays, will post an image once she arrives, in the
mean time here are a couple of pics to enjoy too;

Still waiting on a nice modified wharncliffish blade, with the point a little lower than center line, one of these days :)

Gary:

The tanto Seb IMO seems to work similar to a wharcliff blade. Not the same of course but similar.:)

Gary, i knew that you will fall again in the Sebenza, i am sure that you will fit it with one of your beautiful lanyard ;)

Scott, I was thinking about getting one like that and modifying it but couldn't
bring myself to do that!

And Garonne, yes indeed, it'll have a nice lanyard adorning it on it's arrival.
The ones above were just visiting but that's the hazard of having knives
stop by, they get your impulses flickering again! :)

I knew that you would come back to the CRK fold G2, it was just a matter of time!!

Ah Garonne, yep that one worked real well, but for this one, I'd need
a nice bead of Mammoth ivory, not sure what I'll use just yet, maybe
spark plugs :)

see the beads on the end of this braided lanyard/fob, they were polished
spark plug tips, extras from the Bosch Platinum spark plugs, when I was
changing my spark plugs out, found those in the box and thought I'd hang
on to them, figured out a use that night ;) I pulled a long narrow piece of
leather through to cinch it up tight, the leather expanded into the threads
of the tip so it doesn't move, put a piece of paper between the leather and
trimmed off the excess, works nice, may do that for this one, if I had some
mammoth, I'd do the same, tap them first so they'd stay in place too!
