I haven't bought a knife in a long time (like a year!) and would like to buy myself one. I would like a fixed blade, smallish blade length (3" or so). Used for general homestead chores as well as to take fishing. Leather belt sheath a must. Nice wood handle. I say classic as I do not want something that is "tactical" looking. I make various trips to the hardware and grocery store throughout the week and do not want to worry about being threatening.

Price range of $100, give or take. haven't looked whats all out there yet. I haven't had my nose in the knife business lately.

Thanks in advance.

Hard to beat a Canadian Belt Knife by Grohmann / DH Russell. Another good choice would be the Case Leather Handled Hunter 316-5 or Buck 105 or 119. Maybe a Case Ridgeback of one design or another. All are nice classic designs that would serve you well.

Wow, lots of choices out there from major manufacturers to customs.
You can check out the Knife Makers' Exchange here on the forums, or check the subforum for specific makers HERE.

CRKT, Gerber, and Buck all offer such classic knives, though neither Buck's 105 nor 119 are what you're looking for - try the mini Alpha Hunter (w/ leather sheath) or Ranger Skinner instead, or the 110 or 112 if folders become an option. CRKT Kommer knives are in that range as is their Stubby Razel, also the Boker Plus Dozier or Vox knives, Gerber Freeman and Wallowa, Benchmade Activator, Enzo Trapper (and others), Anza Knives, that DH Russell Belt Knife mentioned above...

SOOOOooooo many to choose from! Heck, even Condor Tool & Knife has things you might want to see.

But if you have the time and have the funds, I'd recommend dropping a line to a maker (on this forum or elsewhere) and get something special made just for you, something just how you want it, something that can be handed down, an heirloom. Good luck and let us know what you get!

Don't forget the scandis too. Helle and Enzo are good all around knives and the look wonderful with wood handles.

i don't know if you prefer stainless steel or not, here are just a few options:

Go to Ragnar's Forge. Lots of very high quality wood and leather handled knives in the size you want.

Absolutely :)

I always really liked the old Loveless patterns, timeless.

I could easily meet your needs.

Helle makes some very nice fixed blades in that size. I love the Grizzly. Also the Safari (which is probably a tad large for your taste) is a nice hunting and general use knife as well. I'm pretty sure there are also a lot of custom knife makers that can make you something within your specs.
