Im very excited that i can finally afford a Sebenza..... This will be my first knife in this price range so i want to get it right.. I just have a question or two and a picture request..

First off... I just handled an alias 1.. I like it.. But it was not comfortable where the lock bar cut out is.. with my pointer finger when gripping.. In general the knife had alot of hot spots...
I plan to use this knife as an EDC.. and it will see some harsh work... (nothing too bad).... But which is more comfortable to hold... I have no acess to try one out.. so i need your guys word on this...
I like the looks of the classic better .... But i like the fact that the regular has a bit of a tougher blade... ( not as pointy)...... But i worry the cut out on the classic would not be comfortable...
And info here would help alot.... anything you want to say.. go ahead..
I will be getting one next week.. so i want to get it rite...
Also would any body be able to take some in hand pictures of both knives.. In a few different angles... To see how your fingers wrap around the knife and fore finger area....
Thank you..
Matt Bodnar
And i can not wait....

There is not a huge amount of difference in the feel of either knife. I think its more a styling thing.
I personaly prefer the regular, it just looks better to me and im sure it sits better in my hand but the classic is pretty much just as comfortable.
The blades are a little different but again it makes so little difference in actual use you would probably never notice.

Both knives are a good choice so i wouldnt worry too much, just go for the one you like the look of best

I do prefer the look of the classic much more.... So if really...
the main difference would be preference in the looks... Then i may as well go for the classic.. I like the simpler design and more protection for the finger..

Looks like i just pulled the trigger on a Lrg Classic Standard model... Im sure i will be happy with it... I will be paying for it in a few short days.... I cant wait...
Thanks to a good guy from the forum... hooking me up!

I agree with Haze in that there is not a huge amount of difference between the two in feel. The facts that you do not have access to handle one and prefer the more pronounced finger guard on the classic seems to indicate that you should go for the classic! I don't think the regular's blade shape is much more tough than the classic. Reports of tip breakage on sebenzas are extremely rare. I prefer the regular myself, the choice really comes down to personally preference.

Thanks Johny and Haze... And i suppose if anything does ever happen to the tip or to the blade for that matter... Chris Reeve would gladly take care of it correct?

Does anybody know of a Thumb stud.. that can replace the stock sebbie stud, without modifying anything?

Congratulations on scoring the large Sebbie. My large one is a dog paw classic and it's perfectly comfortable in hand, even though I prefer the regular handle for my small Sebbie. The lock, however, is easier for me to operate in the classic model than it is in the regular model.

I agree that the blade profiles won't make much difference anywhere except in the "eye of the beholder". And yes, I believe that CRK will take care of any problems that you encounter.

As most members here know, I'm a Sebenza freak! Just my .02 on this, but consider what you will doing with the knife. You mentioned an EDC and hard work. As much as I like the Classic, the large Regular Seb works best in an EDC for me, and I'll tell you why. A good amount of cutting time for a knife is spent upside down. Meaning you pull up with the blade, hence your thumb is resting on the underside(lock) of the knife. This is very uncomfortable and awkward with the Classic. The large Regular seb just feels right when hard using the knife in this manner. Every year I use mine to field dress whitetail here in Michigan, and 80% of the time the knife edge is facing up toward me.

Another thing are the blades. To me the Classic is more of a fighter style blade; longer and thinner. Where-as the Regular is more user friendly with a shorter and wider blade. You may consider these things before you jump on one or the other for aesthetics.

Funny how nobody mentions the fact that Chris thinks the regular is an upgrade.
He wouldn't have gone through the trouble, had he not thought the regular was a better design.
That is what finally swayed me to the regular. You will get many different opinions around here, but the man himself sees the regular as being better. Maybe only a little bit better, but still...

That is the same exact train-of-thought of made me get both. I started off with a Classic (love it), but the thought that Chris went to the trouble of "upgrading" the knife after years of use and user response made me want the regular as well.

Thanks for all the feedback guys....
overall, i still prefer the looks.... and overall design of the classic better...
but i will find out when i get it in hand....
I could always do a swap...
But , regardless... i cant wait..
Matt

I prefer the regular look and that's all I've ever had in my collection. You can't go wrong either way.

So, how about this thumb stud though? anyone know of an exact fit... for a replacement...?

The most significant difference for me is the easier access to the thumb stud afforded by the classic. Given the deterioration in fine motor skills under stress, easy is good. Best regards, ELN.

It just occured to me. Maybe he made the regular for marketing reasons, not because it was 'better'. None of these threads would exist had he not made two kinds of Sebenza.
Also, having two designs makes people want to own both... genius!

You will like it, Matt. You'll like it a lot!

True, but the classic was discontinued for a bit there and the regular was the only one in the line up. Unless Chris pulled the 'New Coke' trick...
