Classic with a Swedge, Redundant?

I have not seen a Classic in person. But I'm thinking about getting one. I definately want some serrations, but I'm not sure if I should get a small swedge on it. I've read some things here on the forums that make it sound like a classic blade with a swedge would be kind of redundant.

What do you folks think?

No I don't believe they are the same thing.

The classic is more of a drop point in profile, but a swedge is where the spine of the blade is thinned.

The classic blade is kind of longer and thinner than that of the regular. I think(as well as have)a swedge on the regular, it benefits it more. The classic with the drop point, has more of a penatrating point therefore nagating the swedge. If you are serious thinking of getting the swedge, I would see how the standard blade plays out in your daily usage. You can always add a swedge, but not take it away. :)

The Swedge gives a sleeker looking, more penetrating point on the knife but also makes for a sharp/almost sharp edge on the spine near the tip, which if you press against it would bite back and so I opt to not have that done on my blades. Now a swedge grind that leaves metal along the spine would be ok but not to the point of becoming a second edge. Good idea on a fighter type knife maybe but a small folder probably not necessary. YMMV...:)

Edited to add this image from GigOne...shows the spine of the blade with a swedge ground in...though it's a regular style blade, you'll get the idea on the swedge...

not at all redundant. My classic small has a swedge.
Beautiful!
Feels great looks good too!

I had a swedge on a small that I carried for over a year. I loved it and sure miss that knife. I added a different look to the knife. Very nice.

O.k. thanks guys,
As soon as I stop hemmoraging money because of the holidays I'll put my order in, WITH a swedge!

I had a large Classic with small swedge and absolutely loved that one. It gives it a great look. You will not regret it.

Enjoy,
JT
