Classic with bloodwood - use or refinish?

I recently got a great deal on a classic bloodwood (Thanks deadhead).

It was accurately described that as a user, some of the shine is gone from the wood. Here's my problem. On the lesser worn wood areas the color and shine are fantastic, very dramatic. I'm afraid though that if I send it in for a refurb, it will come back so nice I'll be afraid to use it.

I suppose the right answer is send it in AND use it when it comes back.

What say you?

Hmmm you could attempt it yourself with some 600 grit paper and then a buffer? I did that for a fellow from FL that sent his knife up for a fitting, it was quite worn and deeply scratched but came out very nice, he was pleasantly surprised when he received it back. And as always, if it becomes something you wish you didn't start, you could send it in for a cleanup.

The large wood classic I just received has some character marks on her and that just makes me want to use it more. Soooo, maybe use it a while and then try the clean up deal?
Good luck on that.

Gary is right on the money. 600 grit paper, then maybe some 000 steel wool to finish it off, then buff it with Ren Wax and you'll be good to go.

Ditto for whats been said. Afterwards a nice coat of Johnsons will do it real justice! :D

If I were you I'd get rid of it ASAP. It sounds like it is beyond hope. You could send it to a home for wayward/unwanted Sebbies. Don't know of such a home you say. Fortunately, I operate such a home for Sebbies and other CRK knives. Just put it in the mail. I'll be glad to take it off your hands. :D :D

I agree with trying to refinish it yourself. You might want to tape off the Ti slabs so that you don't scratch them while using sandpaper and steel wool. If you want the scales glass smooth, use a little linseed or other furniture oil when doing the finest sandpaper and the small dust particles and oil will get worked into the pores of the wood. Buff, then Ren wax.

:p Nice try!!! I offered him a trade on it BEFORE he even got it!
It'll make a nice user for me so that my large woodie can stay pristine! :D
Dave, offer still stands!

Gary quit helping him! (I'll buy a sheath for it from you!) ;)

As does mine. Think of it Dave, your little Sebbie would have constant supervision, regular exercise, field trips and be in the company of other wayward Sebbies. We've established a very therapeutic environment and I assure you your Sebbie (not to mention me) would benefit from this placement. :p :D ;)

And if you would prefer a European home for your Sebbie, I would be glad to help out .... ;)

Hah, you guys can do better than that. SO far I lke it alot, in fact the wife actually said she liked it to, which is not a small matter. She might have been saying that to make me feel good though.

Anyway BobbyB I'm still considering your offer, I want to wait until I get one back from Mr. Mayo, before considering it further.
