I discovered that two friends EDC Swiss Army Knives. They're not quite the Paramilitary 2 collection I have in my room, but it's a start. I personally don't carry knives on campus. When I found out they carry, I didn't want to sound too excited so I casually said, "Oh Victorinox. They make SAK's right" (hehe if only they knew how many I have at home). Then I found out that the guy who carries the Victorinox Swisscard (which isn't really a knife) also has the Toologic card-knife, which he said "has a huge blade". Heheh. You never know who EDC's. Even non knife guys per se, might carry a small blade.

Have any of you guys discovered an unassuming EDC'er? How did you discover it?

We hired a new guy at work recently, a really good friend of one of the other guys who works there. The other guy is very much not a knife guy, saying (seriously), "No need to carry a knife, I can use my teeth or my keys". So to my surprise, a couple days ago the new guy whips out a folder to cut a string off his coat. I asked what he carried(I didn't get a good look), and he pulls out a ZT 770, telling me "I carry this cause I wanted to try something with Elmax".

Yup. At work.
A guy was using a SOG Twitch 2 for really light prying. He didn't even get the job done because the light prying didn't work and he didn't want to pry harder.
So we got talking and he has a bunch of Loveless knives too.

Another guy had a Gerber sheathed to his overalls and we got talking too. It was his beater knife because he wants to keep his Benchmades nice.

And I saw a guys keys as he was leaving, and there was a Lady/Manbug on them.

A start to what? I've owned a PM2 and I find my sak electrician to be superior for day to day needs. Not everyone who owns knives is a collector. I'm not.

Fair point. I meant it's a start in terms of being sympathetic to knife collectors, because many people own SAK's but wouldn't be called a collector, and then some people take it a step further and get very into various other knives. But of course I don't expect everyone to start collecting knives, it's just good to know there are plenty of people who would be sympathetic towards EDC'ers even if they aren't collectors themselves.

Well in the fire science program one of the teachers asked for everyone who didn't have a knife with them to raise their hand, 2 people raised their hand. Those 2 were quickly given a bad time for not carrying such an essential tool. This was in a class which took place in a mostly classroom setting where a knife isn't required. If I remember correctly the other guy who was helping run the class pulled out his knife to show as an example of what they should be carrying, truth be told he wanted to show off his knife. My teacher responded to that by pulling out his knife which he affectionately referred to as his "mini hatchet" which may have been a junk yard dog now that I think about it. So we had a good few minutes of them going back an forth about knives in front of a class of 40, so we also had a mini-break to talk about knives among ourselves as well while they were doing that.

Funny thing is out of all of us you might have been lucky to see 5 pocket clips, we were all mostly discretely carrying a knife. I found it to be the same story in normal college classrooms but not as drastic.

When I was in college (more than a few years ago), I carried a Buck Stockman and a Ruger P89 9mm pistol (knife in my pocket; pistol in my bag). A few people saw me use the Buck - no big deal back them. And, fortunately, no one ever had to see me use the Ruger (to save their defenseless asses, that is!), so I luckily didn't have to explain myself to anyone.

A ruger p89 would be hell to cc anyway. Might as well try and conceal a brick.

Some of my friends carry saks etc but that's about it. No big collectors.

It wasn't quite unassuming, but at my friends tattoo parlor, another friend of mine was being drilled on while I talked with the formers nephew who helped out, he had a small lock back knife and it was made of Damascus, and he had no idea what it was. I couldn't id the knife but I took a pic if you all are interested.

Then the piercing guy came along to hang out and I didn't know him, but noticed the browning fixed blade in his belt pretty quickly. Once my friends were busy with the tattoo I inquired about his knife and handed him my 566 to look at. Turns out the guy had a Kershaw crown in his other pocket, as well as a boot knife! He recognized the ZT brand having owned his Kershaw but his blade was a bit dull (took a few swipes to cut paracord :o) I ended up tying lanyards on the browning and Kershaw and made a new friend, closest I've come to meeting another knife knut such as I!
