It is with deep regret that I inform the knife community that my friend and fellow knife maker Claude Montjoy passed away on 9-23-2011 which happened to be my birthday. Claude was probably one of the best grinders and one of the most prolific knife makers in the country. Claude's wife Sybil passed away only 7 months ago. May they both rest in peace.

R.I.P., Claude and Sybil. I never owned any but always admired Clause's knives.

Thanks for letting us know, Bobby.......may they both Rest in Peace and God Bless all of their family, friends, and loved ones.

Too many of these kind of posts this year.... :(

Sad to hear this kind of news.

Hopefully the Montjoys are reunited and in a good place.

Our Prayers for Claude and family

My Daughter just turned 13 same Birthday as you Bobby

Very sorry to hear of his passing. He was one of the very first custom knifemakers I became aware of way back in the day.

Unfortunately, I never met Claude but do have a couple of his great knives.

The first as mentioned by Roger is of a Tanto which RP kindly sold to me a number of years ago and is a piece I will NOT sell

while the other is a nice Bowie I obtained at a custom knife show about 7 years ago as I recall

on a recent visit to another collector, I saw a nice duplicate of the Tanto except with different wood and some nice engraving. They would make a great pair.

His work was exceptional.

Murray, please give me a call when you get time, Claude was my uncle and I'd like to discuss the knives you have of his. Thanks Eddy

double e -- I have not seen a way to contact you but my email address is in my sig file so just email me with a phone # and I'll get back to you.

Greetings all. I recently was fortunate to acquire a collection of 28 Montjoy knives primarily made in the 1990s, and they are simply astounding. If anyone knows the answers to two questions, I'd greatly appreciate you sharing. Some of the knives are engraved, and I'd like to know who Claude had engrave his work. None of the sheaths have imprints / logos in them, and I'd like to know if Claude made his own sheaths. Feel free to reply here or email me at lewism@alfred.edu.

Here is a group photo of the Montjoy Collection. I mostly collect drop point skinners, so I plan to sell most of the folders and boot knives. We'll see how well that works.
