I just got a $7.95 Claymore Mine bag from www.omahas.com. As I mentioned in another post, I used to carry a 32 oz. rectangular Nalgene bottle in one pocket and snacks/emergency gear in the other--great for side trips away from your pack. I'm pretty sure a GI canteen and cup would fit, too, but the round Nalgene wide mouth's are too tall for the bag to snap shut. It looks like a set of NATO mess tins (or at least the smaller tin) will fit inside one of the pockets to protect your snacks/emergency gear from impacts.

I also got a pair of OG-107 ripstop cotton poplin jungle fatigue pants (with the wallet pocket inside the left cargo pocket). I loved the ones I got in the Army to death because they were not too hot, protected me from the sun and bugs and dried really fast for a cotton garment, but they are getting hard to find. If you cut them off below the cargo pockets and hem them, they make great shorts, too. Too bad they're getting harder to find and more expensive. . .
