What the Claymore needs is either good steel or a lower price. D2 is bargain basement steel nowadays.

I dunno. BM does D2 right. For the money, the Claymore offers a pretty good value of you are looking for a side opening beater. Not in the same league as something like the Adamas Auto, but for what they cost the Claymore is light, tough, and fires about as hard as any side opener in my collection with 100% lock up.
I'd be happy to see some more upgraded Claymores, but I think they fill a niche.

It's CPM-D2 though, which is basically the same price as other CPM tool steels like 3V and M4. CPM-D2 is considerably tougher than ingot D2.
