I'm a big fan of traditional knives: for the most part, I feel something (either animal or tree) must die to make a knife handle. I want to collect every Boker handle material ever made. I'm trying to find the perfect whittler. I am planning to order a Nessmuk from Fiddleback sometime soon. You get the idea.

I went to the local knife shop the other day to get my friend, who's more on the modern side of knife nutness to get him a Boker Trance. They were out, but had plenty of Subcomms. I got him one. Looking at the Subcomm, it looks like the most uncomfortable thing ever made. Playing w/ the thing in the store, it's amazing how well it fits in the hand, and the blade sweep seems perfect for all sorts of uses. I also got to play with a Spyderco Lava. Again, all around awesome. I feel like I have to pick up everything Chad's designed. Looking forward to the Boker Hyper - it looks a little too tactical for me, but it looks very everyday useful.

Way to go Chad - now I'm going to lose a lot more money thanks to your awesome designs. Keep it up.

The Subcom is definitely one of those knives that you've got to handle to fully appreciate. There are aftermarket options for getting handles made out of wood or something else less tactical looking than black FRN if you got one and wanted it to be a better fit for your collection, appearance-wise.

I love the photos of what Potterma and others on this board have done in the way of handles, but the beauty of these knives is how wafer thin they are and how they disappear even into small watch pockets. Since this is the case, the tactical look doesn't really bother me. Although, Potterma's moonglow, ivory micarta, and tigereye micarta handles look awesome...
