I was hoping to get some advice on cleaning rust spots off my carbon blade. I read somewhere that soaking it in vinegar would work, but I figured that would poor even patina on the blade. I also read to use a baking soda paste with a cut potato. Which I tried. It worked ok, but I still can see the spots slightly. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!!

Most recommend flitz metal polish.
After that I would recommend you letting it develop a patina to protect against rust as well as leave a light coat if mineral oil on the blade when stored.

It may not easily be able to completely remove all evidence that the rust was ever there, but patina and use will hide it.

Thanks for the advice. I will give that a shot.

Simichrome polish is the standard for polishing knives and jewelry.
