Came across a 2001 Schrade USA 6-OT Lockback Hunting Knife I originally got new as a gift. It had been in the boot of my cars for the whole time, never used. The blade is nice but the bolsters are tarnished and have what appears to be green wax on them, as shown in the pics. It was stored in the original sheaf, which is in decent shape. I want to clean it up and polish the bolsters, plus restore the sheaf. I have never done such before and would appreciate any tips and tricks!

That should be pretty easy to sort out. I do not know what tools or machines you have at your disposa, so I will assume hand tools and such are what you will use. what I would od is tape off the wood part of the handles with painters tape. then I would spray the brass parts with WD-40 or similar, If needed be a bit more aggressive and clean the bolsters with 0000 steel wool. The brass will probably be cloudy when you are done. Thats when the polishing phase happens. All that said many people love the patina of an old knife, so maybe do nothing.

Thanks donnard! I have no power tools but do have Brasso and Simichrome, lighter fluid, and 0000 steel wool. I would like to get the knife as close to "as new" condition as practicable.

Those are good knives. A little Brasso and fine steel wool and elbow grease should be all you need. You might treat the sheath with SnowSeal to spruce it up.

Clean the inside of the sheath. That's where the green verdigris is coming from.
