What is the recommended way to clean the spyderco diamond sharpmaker 204 hones. I have just been using a nylon tooth brush and brushing them off gently using no water or anything. No instructions came with them on cleaning. You sure cant use the scouring pads like the other sypderco rods. You would shred them instantly. Is my method about the best. Would water hurt? Can the rods rust?

I am also very interested in the Spyderco recommend method of cleaning the diamond rods. The tooth brush seems like an option. Should water and an abrasive cleaner be used?

As recommended in the 204 video, I use warm water with a green scouring pad and an abrasive powdered cleaner, like Comet, to clean the stones. This method works very good for me, except for a little more scrub time when I let the stones get a little too dirty.

Good Luck :D

BTW, clint97, sorry but I don't know how you would clean the diamond rods...haven't gotten them yet. :grumpy: However, in cleaning my DMT Diafold, I usually just run some it under warm water and wipe dry.

I don't think I would use anything to rough to scrub the diamond stones since they are made by embedding the diamonds onto the stone they will rub off if something to rough is used, I just run mine under water and pat dry.

The diamond stones would rip a scrub pad to shreds and the scouring powder would just go between the diamonds and not do anything. They are way to course for that method of cleaning. Thats a fine method for the standard sypderco stones however. I also dont think you would knock the diamonds off. A blade running up and down is much harder on them.
I find knocking the dust out with an old toothbrush works just fine. Thats all they need. Water really accomplishes little added cleaning that would effect the stones performance. So far this dry brush thing is working great.
