I recently inherited an old 110 from my grandfather. No idea how old exactly, any tips on how to figure that out would be appreciated. The pivot has grit in it that I would like to clean out. What’s the best way to do that? This is more a heirloom that a user, so I would like to avoid soaking it is a solvent if possible.

There’s nothing wrong with plain old hot water and some dish soap. Give it a good hand wash, an old toothbrush is good to scrub around the blade tang and pivot area. Rinse it well while working the blade back and forth to allow the pivot gunk to flush out. Dry it off and then oil it up to protect it 👍🏻

Post a few pics from different angles including blade stamping, bolsters, handle inlays, and sheath (front & back). Pics are beloved by the members and you will know all you wish about your heirloom.

or refer to Mr. Lowe's very informative webpage: http://historyofthe110.com/

After cleaning, you can blow dry with canned air, or with a blow drier with no heat. Then polish brass with your favorite polish / cleaner. Flitz,Never Dull etc.
A hot blow drier is a good way to warm and reshape a kydex sheath.

Here it is after some Flitzing on the bolsters. The only marking I could find is at the pivot. Does the slash next to the 110 mark mean anything?

As much as I love the whole “use what you got” philosophy, this is going to be a safe queen.
I don't blame you. That's pretty special, but I am sorry for your loss.
As for cleaning, when I clean my 110 I just use hot water and soap and a dish brush. Easy peasy. :)
