It has a few minor scratches and needs to get shined up. Any suggestions oin what i should use? I don't know much about cleaning titanium. thanks.

this is one of the hardest handles to restore..
the best bet is to re-brush it some how perhapps with a steel brush ..
they can be polished but that is one heck of a job!

I would'nt. I'd send it to a knowledgable knife craftsman who has the proper tools.Like Buck or Leroy.DM

i have to say david is right if you want it fixed as collector knife
Leroy does the best work .. but he charges
buck is verry good also and
cheaper as they clean along with sharping for 6$ i think it is
{{ESP if you can get Joe Houser to work on it }}

i did not stop to think this was other then a user..sorry:o
i have had users of this knife and it is great
that is unless you are in Maine in winter with no gloves on..

Well Dave, I was merely thinking since it was a 560 probably late 90's as those sell for around $100 its worth having it done up in real good condition.DM

oh i agree ! i send mine to leroy mostly he sounded like he wanted to DIY..
since they got popular i cant bottom feed one for less then 60 for a user now..
these are one of my fav's ...
was all i could do to not make an offer..
did that as a joke once and got span points..:(

LOL -- Having been there in the winter, I'd agree!! Sort of like putting your tongue on the flagpole, never a good idea in the dead of winter. :D

I've got 2 of the 560's, one is a user... great knife...

i reallllllly like the thicker early ones better then the later ones
what year did they get thin?

yeah its going to be a user so it didnt have to be perfect.

Dave Martin, yes the date code is "C" so it was made in 1995.

and i believe that the 186 had the thicker handles your thinking of 334dave. im not positive though.

I can remember seeing 97,(?)98,99,2000 and 01.The plant which was supplying Buck the titanium handles burned down in 01(I think). So, Buck didn't procure another source for them and that was the end of that model. The early ones must have been the thicker ones you mentioned. We also have seem them w/110 blades.DM

my guess is Buck ran out of 560 blades and used 110's becuase i dont see any difference between them other than blade markings. Shame the plant burned down though, i would love to see this model offered again.

If I remember then both of the last two have some correct comments.I'm still looking for an article Joe H. sent me w/ much detail on the 560's.However, I did find a good article in the Club newsletter/magazine on the 560 written by John Miner in June 2003 issue titled Buck Titanium. It gives the date when the 560 came out of 1989-2001. The 186 titanium take apart came out 2yrs.prior but was very much like the 560.However this article did not mention the ti. plant burning down in 2001.This plant was making ti.handles from recycled product thus could offer it at a economic price.(memory)
They did ship one or two shipments to Buck that last year.(2001)Then Buck instead of setting the stamping die for the 560 or purchasing the 01 yr. die, merely used 110 blades to fill those last orders.Hence, we see alot of the 110 blades in the ti. handles which I think was being used on those sent in for repair.I'll keep looking.DM
