What's the best way to clean it?

I have a Ritter Mini-Grip. Can the blade only be removed, by unscrewing and sliding it out? Or would the axis lock come apart?

Yes it can . I just switched out my griptilian handles on my 551 satin finish black handle with my D2 black coated blade with the green handle. The blade and the two bronze washers come out and the handle and the axis lock are perfectly fine. I just had a little trouble putting the pivot pin back in place since the axis lock pushes the blade a little to the side. It's not hard to do, and it's neat to be able to take your own knife apart and put it back together.

Hope this helps, J.

Awesome, thanks!

I just wanted to make sure the Axis lock and omega spring weren't going to fly out or something. It didn't look like it happen, just wanted to make sure.

No problem, I was curious too as I was in the middle of taking off the first blade earlier today :o. I swapped the blades with one another, so now it looks like I have two brand new knives :D. If I get a third one in the rotation I may never have to buy a knife again ;). I had the plain edge satin finish 551 with the black handle, and the D2 black coated plain edge with the green handle. I just switched the blades, so now I have an all black 551 with a D2 blade, and a green handle satin finish 551. They look better that way in my opinion.

Hope your knife "operation" goes successful , J.

I tend to do a lot of quick food cutting tasks now and then, and I just wanted to make sure I'd be able to clean the gunk that eventually builds up in the pivot area.

LOL, so looks like you have Benchmade Griptilian Lego system going on.

Dissasembly of the axis locks can sometimes be a pain, doable but not as drop dead simple as a linerlock. Just taking the scales or blade off is not a problem I think, and that's as far as you'll need to dissasemble for cleaning. I normally just give mine a spray with whatever gunscrubber type product I have on hand. Sometimes I'll drop it in the ultrasonic cleaner loaded with simple green. I don't take mine apart for cleaning, but I suppose if there was some concern over organic stuff in the nooks and crannies I might.

LOL, pretty much. If I get the camo handled one I might be able to have a black coated partially serrated version to throw into the bunch too ;).
