cleaning a blade

Here is something everyone probably knows. The other day when I was sharpening a stained carbon blade on an oilstone(using detergent).
When I was finished I wiped the "slurry" of the blade and used it to polish it. Came out as good as new. Probably some useless info but I thought it was cool.
