Cleaning a blade

I've noticed that on a few of my more frequently used knives that I can never seem to get them completely clean. A lot of times there's slight discoloration if you look at them from the right angle. Additionally, I recently got a knife that had after-market modifications (Spyderco Delica with a mother-of-pearl inlay) to use as a dress knife and noticed some water spots or something on the blade. Seeing as how I'm not the best at getting a blade looking clean and that I want this knife to be as presentable as possible, I'm curious about how the rest of you get your knives to look like new.

Mr. Raptor is exactly correct.

To remove sticky, gooey stuff like tape residue, use WD-40.

Lubricate with Militec-1.

To remove oily films, use Windex.

Polish with Flitz.

Then protect with Ren Wax.

cotton cloth and brasso. metal-glo and flitz also work well. for those really nasty spots, jewelers rouge, water and a dremel with a buffing wheel.
