Cleaning a Buck Redpoint

Hi,
Last summer I spent $30 on a Redpoint. I like it, and I think the locking mechanism is cool. Its a decent substitution for an axis lock or arc lock for those of us on the budget of a teenager's allowance. The only problem I've had is that the blade gets slower and slower opening, to the point where it doesn't open with gravity alone. I took it apart and cleaned it once but it was a huge pain to get back together so I'm not taking it apart again. Its been getting really sticky again lately and, admittedly, I'm pretty sure there is dried fruit in it now...
Anyone who has a Redpoint I would love to hear what you think of it, and any advice on cleaning would be more than welcome!

If there's dried fruit in the pivot, I'm sure that's what's giving you problems. It needs to be cleaned out, if that's in there. The sugars in the fruit will make a sticky mess of it.

The upside is, there's no reason not to give the whole knife a bath in HOT water (whatever your hands can tolerate) and dish detergent, like Dawn, Palmolive, Ivory Liquid, etc. Work the pivot back & forth while immersed in the soapy water for a while. Then, rinse in HOT water, again working the pivot thoroughly. Dry everything out (knife should be nice & warm from the hot wash/rinse, which greatly aids evaporation), lube and go from there. If it's still sticky/slow after that, do it again (wash) until all the sticky gunk is worked out. Shouldn't have to take the knife apart to get it cleaned up.
