I'm interested in removing the gunk and goo from some old Case XX's. These are users/beaters which I have just for my enjoyment and won't ever be sold. They aren't showpieces. The blades have plenty of patina and so forth which I would like to keep. Just interested in cleaning up the gunk on the inside of the knives mostly, along with the pivot/backspring areas. Nothing fancy.

WD-40 and a Q-tip? Blast it with carb cleaner and then relube (might damages scales)? Dishwasher (sounds a little crazy, but works well with SAKs and multitools)?

thanks

QTip and rubbing alcohol works for me, as does a drop of liquid soap, with opening and closing the blades under running hot water. Lube and go.

WD40 is a decent cleaner for some things, but I don't like it on knives.
