The tools on my Vic Spirit are getting stiff and are clumping when I try to open some of them. I sprayed some silicon on it, which didn't totally cure the problem. What is a good procedure for cleaning it up so that the tools open with the usual, clump-free smoothness?

Yep, clean it up with some water (gotta love the almost rust-proof nature of Vic tools:thumbup:) then lube it up with some WD-40.

Just something that I do, if there is any chance that I will be using the tool for food prep (some of my tools will see this duty during a camp out), i soak the tool in mineral oil after the cleaning, then all the extra out. It lubricates, is food safe, and won't go rancid like an organic oil. FYI.

for pocket carry saks i usually use a can of compressed air with the straw attachment to blow out the lint stuck in between the tools

On several occasions I've run multi-tools and SAKs through the dishwasher. Just dry and lube promptly to avoid rust. A hair dryer or heat gun at a safe distance will dry out all of the nooks and crannies pronto.

I just use a tooth brush and CLP, Same with my knives. When I clean my firearms I usually just grap an oily(CLP) rag and wipe them down.

Huh. That is a good idea. Might have to do that on the next run. Do you open it or leave it closed?

Still having trouble with my Spirit (I know, sounds like a metaphysical or religious issue :D). Anyway, I have dunked it in a pot of boiling water, dried it, and sprayed lubricant in the joints, let it soak, and dried it again. There is some improvedment, but the blades still clump and some of them are hard to open. I'm going to run it through the dish washer next. Any other suggestions?

I'll second the dishwasher. It works AWESOME. It gets stuff out that you didn't even know was there.

Spray with Simple green let it penetrate for at least 5 min, then wash with hot water and then spray with WD-40 to displace water and then lubricate with CLP.

Here's what I did that finally got some results:

1. I gave it a wild ride in the dishwasher.
2. Then I hosed it with an aerosol Liquid Wrench-type product and let it sit over night.

After wiping it clean, it functions much better.
