Hey guys just trying to figure out the best way to clean knives.
I have benchmade Blue Lube and the cleanser.

The cleanser faded the black coating on my para2, not sure what caused that, whether it be the cleaning or the dry lube its suppose to leave behind.

So my question is, what do you guys recommend to clean with? I hear soap, water, and a toothbrush work, which makes me paranoid because water+metal=rust? right?
or if you dry it thoroughly is it ok? I just seems like water in the pivot and everything would stay there.

Water/soap and a tooth brush would be fine, ideally you could pick up an ultrasonic cleaner (<$30) and not have to scrub.

I always disassembel my knives as far as possible for a good cleaning & lube every few months.

I prefer to take the knife apart for cleaning but if I'm not I just use Simple Green and water with a tooth brush and some pipe cleaners. Water won't hurt anything as long as you dry the knife thoroughly. The best way I've found to make sure all water is removed is to flush the knife out with rubbing alcohol or wd40 then blow it out with compressed air. Once the knife is dry apply some lube to the pivot and your all set. If you descide to disassemble the knife I've found that alcohol pads work well for cleaning.

Awesome thanks guys. As far as reassembling the knife, just make sure everything is snug and the pivot isn't too tight but tight enough to have no blade play?
Seems like the toothbrush method seems to work for general cleaning. Ill just have to try taking them apart so I'm less afraid to do so on my more expensive ones haha.
Thanks again guys

Anyone have any suggestions for the fading of the para 2 coating?
Also lube recommendations would be great.

As for the Para 2 blade coating, the best bet may be to embrace the fade, the wear and the scratches. Otherwise you may go nuts, because that coating is going to head south as you use the knife, and there is no stopping it.

Lube? Anything really. Part of the fun is figuring out what you like. Anything from the cheap stuff like WD40 or 3-in-1 oil, to the ultra spendy mega lubes that cost $20 for a teeny vial. They all work, with slight differences in efficacy and staying power. I rarely lube a knife pivot, but when I do, I just hit it with a blast of WD40. I do have plenty of other lubes that I have collected over they years. But they will all do the trick.

You could try using oil on the blade, to darken the complexion of the coating. Doubt the cleanser actually removed any of the coating.
