Got a Mini AFCK about a week ago and was happy with the smooth action but just the other day I noticed that dirt or something had gotten into the pivot area. I washed it out and it must have been a grain of sand or something but there's also this black, greasy residue that stains your hands if you touch it. It looks like the blade is scraping the washers off when I open and close it. I've never had this problem with my Military and was wondering if this is just a Mini AFCK problem, an AFCK problem or an overall Benchmade problem and what I can do about it.

BM's warranty says that it is voided if the knife is disassembled. So the decision is yours. I routinely take mine apart to clean and when done apply Tough-Glide which dries but leaves a lubricant. The BM's can come sloppy from the factory and this may be how yours got the grit in the washer area. Did you check the blade play with the blade open and the lock bar released? Sometimes this has revealed a sloppy blade that otherwise would go undetected.

It sounds like you might have washed some of the lube out of the pivot. I believe that they use never-seaze which is grayish black and will stain your hands. Hope this helps.

Dude,

That never-seeze stuff sounds like it. Just found it interesting that after I cleaned the pivot area out with water and opened the blade a couple of times, this magical grease just appeared from nowhere. So I guess its normal and I don't have to freak out. Thanx.
