Cleaning and oiling a folding hunter

I have 2 Cases and 1 Kabar folding hunters that need a good cleaning. The blades don't snap; too much dirt and grim in the pivot. I've used WD 40 which loosened them up a bit, but I need to clean or wash the dirt out somehow. So before I screw something up myself, I'm asking the pros on here. And also what is the best lubricant to apply to keep them working smoothly and rust free? Thanks in advance guys!

For lubrication and rust prevention I would recommend Tuf-glide. I'm sure others with much more experience than I will weigh in here as well. I am pretty new here, but I use Tuf-glide with the needle applicator and have had good results. You dont have to use much, only a small drop will do the trick.

I have found that GunScrubber from the sporting goods store or automotive brake cleaner work well for dissolving gunk and flushing it out of folders. Just take it outside to use it. ;) After that, a drop or two of Rem-Oil on the pivot and open and close the blade a couple of times to spread the lube gets things working smoothly.

i will only add that if you are gonna use these in contact with food stuff you need to be cautious, as some of these can be rather nasty tasting and not fit for consumption... personally i just flush it out with wd40 then super hot water and dish soap, dry it up use some mineral oil (joint always and steel if its carbon)
then enjoy! Mineral oil is cheap and a bottle lasts forever and ya can get it at the drug store or grocery!

Put them in the pocket of a pair of old jeans and then wash and dry them. Take em out and oil lightly. Sounds crazy but it works.--KV

If they're carbon steel, they'll come out a bit rusted though.........

Blow it out either with WD-40 or compressed air, then use a toothbrush to scrub the pivots and re-oil the pivots.
