Just wondering what do you guys use to clean the rust and preservative off the antique kukris? And what do you suggest to use to keep it in good shape afterwards? Thank you.

I use a razor blade to take off any heavy rust and then a Scotchbrite pad. I usually do not want to remove all the patina. Then I use mineral oil to prevent rust on the blade and also on the handle to prevent it from drying out.

I was thinking alcohol on a paper towel. I want to leave everything as original as possible minus any degrading rust and the cosmoline type stuff.

That should work out well Blender345.
The alcohol should kill the live red rust and leave the patina, black rust alone. then a good layer of mineral oil and soak the handle in that too so it gets nicely hydrated.
