Cleaning Arkansas Stones

I don't know about Arkansas stones, but I use sandpaper on a flat surface to clean and reshape my waterstones and other cheaper stones from the local toolshop.

I use powdered Boraxo hand soap, warm water and an old toothbrush. I works great.

Robert, Don't use sand paper. The soap is good. I use mineral oil or a shot of WD-40 and a old toothbrush and wipe clean with a cloth. Takes about 1 min.. DM

i use clp and a baby's toothbrush with warm water afterwards. and air dry. seems to work great. id avoid sandpaper, it may ruin the grit of the stone, or imbed debris in the stone's poors.

I've found EZ Off works very well too . Especially if some dummy in the kitchen gummed it up with olive oil! Just let it sit for a few minutes and rinse.

I think I was reading an article in Blade and the head of Smiths said to use kitchen cleanser and a Scotch Brite pad but wasn't sure.

What David said.
I just use a clean shot of whatever grinding lubricant I am using and wipe the stone dry.
