Cleaning canvas micarta

Got a knife with black canvas micarta looking bad.
How do I brighten up a bit? Would like to see the fibers.

I assume its polished micarta, if so all I am aware of is a light sanding. I would hit it with 1500 or 2000 grit sandpaper then polish it with a piece of leather and should be back to its orginal look.

Steel will rough it up some without too much scratchy look left.
Soap, water and a stiff brush might help some too

I use rubbing alcohol on a rag for years with great success. It removes all the hand oils that get absorbed and darken the micarta over time. Sometimes takes a few times to get it all, but it generally only takes a couple of minutes.
