Cleaning Case XX Handles

I recently came into ownership of about 20 Case knives that were in a display for the last 25-40 years. They are in very good shape but I noticed there is a little tarnish to them. I can easily polish the bolsters and the blades but what would I need to do to the handles to get them shining again?

The bulk of the handles are old red bone, along with about 3 yellow delrins, and maybe a couple of brown delrins.

If this isn't in the right forum, please move. Thanks--

You are a lucky fella congrats on the new collection, I use mineral oil on everything wood, bone, stag, horn, plastics, etc. only have had positive results.

Good luck,
Pete

You might want to leave them in original condition unless there is rust. Many collectors prefer it that way.

So long as the handles on the display knives weren't over-exposed to sunlight (they'll fade heavily on one side), it should be easy to get 'em looking good again. Bone covers can get some quick 'shine' with a light application of mineral oil. They'll even polish up pretty easily with polishing paste, so long as the paste is clean; don't polish bolsters and bone covers at the same time, so the 'dirty' paste from the nickel-polishing won't stain the bone covers. Delrin also polishes very, very easily by the same means.

Looks like mineral oil is my go to for this project...

Anyone ever use any wax or other substances for handles or blades that will be on display for long periods of time?

I use Renaissance Wax on all of my traditional folders. It does an excellent job of bringing out the beauty of bone and stag handles. Does great on bolsters and backsprings, blades too if you feel like it.
