What is the best mild abrasive to clean ceramic stones and diamond stones? I generally use dawn dish soap to clean my stones and have noticed that on the ceramic it is not getting all of the particles off. I know that i am suppose to clean them with a mild abrasive. Just not sure which one is the best to clean them with. All input would be appreciated.

I use a Scotch Brite pad and Barkeeper's Friend. You can get both at your local Walmart.

+1 for Bar Keeper's Friend. Uses oxalic acid to dissolve the metal swarf embedded in the hone. Use it with water (for the powdered version of the product), mixed to a paste. Scrub with an old toothbrush or Scotch-Brite pad, as suggested. Rinse it all off under running water. Does a better job than most anything else, and it won't hurt your ceramic at all.

+2. BKF is awesome. I've removed light rust, and used it on nasty ceramics. Didn't even use any agitation. Just rubbed it into the stone with my fingertips then waited about a minute, and rinsed. Looked like brand new.

I probably never would have picked some up if I hadn't run across it at Lowes. I've seen it at Walmart and even local grocery stores, in fact I saw it today at my small corner market. It's worth every penny of the $2 they ask for a lifetime supply. You'll find it by the Comet and other household cleaning supplies.

I've actually had pretty good luck with Comet on my Sharpmaker rods.

Hot water, Scotch-Brite pad, and "Scratch Free" Comet cleanser.

+3 on BKF, for you Canada folks, you get it at the Home Outfitter stores.

Autosol works awesome, followed up by dishsoap and warm water. Good as new!
