This is an observation that has worked extremely well for a short term situation. If anyone knows of a reason not to do this please post! Damage long term?
I just cleaned a few neglected sharpening stones with an old toothbrush and Barkeepers Friend. I then finished them off with dishwashing liquid and a thorough rinse. These look new now and cut like new. Who knew?
Good luck...Herb

Great stuff, If I'm restoring a stone I normally just end up boiling it for a bit and oiling it for a test run.
