Recommendation? Cleaning delrin?

Picked up a nice Sears Craftsman Stockman at the dirt mall a couple weeks ago. Seen better days, but action is great.

Clearly someone ran it through an electric pull-through, and the main blade is now a clipfoot... But for a tenner I'm not shedding a tear.

Where I'm really failing is trying to clean the delrin. At least, I'm pretty sure it's delrin. I guess it's more absorbent than I expected.

Any suggestions? Or should I just dye it?

if it was mine I'd start with a %10 simple green solution and a medium brush. alternatively a medium fine abrasive steel wool or scotchbrite and go slow. may need to be sealed or waxed when done though, I think it would dirty up fairly soon if left bare

Maybe try some toothpaste and an old brush? To me it looks to have been a work knife that has tons of life left in it. If it were mine, I might give it a dish detergent bath a rinse/dry and a good oiling and call it good.

If you dye it you need to clean it first anyway...hot washing up water and detergent...and good scrub with a toothbrush...inside and out..wont hurt.👍

I was going to suggest the toothbrush and toothpaste. The dish soap and toothbrush might work, too. Oil the joints after washing, of course.
Seal the Delrin with a little car wax. Applying it with an index/polite pointer finger should work. An old rag/T shirt, sock, etc. to polish after the wax dries.

Thanks, guys. Toothpaste and piping hot water did the trick. It's not perfect, but definitely much better.

Might just have to give this some pocket time.
