My Spyderco LW FRN Manix2 is a great knife but after lots of use cutting all kinds of things, the knife does not open and close freely. It's gummy. Tried soap and hot water. Mineral oil, Coconut oil (I use for food prep and am concerned about using petro solvents) but only loosens up action for awhile then gummy again. I don't think I am smart or talented enough to figure out how to take it apart and get it back together.

I like Dawn dish washing liquid, with bleach, for that type of application.

Purchased some used Victorinox SAK knives and they were really crapped up with hard black gunk.

Hot water, Dawn and old tooth brush,,, several applications while cycling open/close made all of the blades and tools free up. Soak for 15-20 min then work the blade.

Regards,
FK

I was going to mention ultrasonic cleaned!

Also, does anyone know if either hydrogen peroxide or enzymatic cleaner would help?

Ps I hate the stink of dawn— would try odor free cleaner if going that route.

ordor free cleaner if going that route.

Try a hand held steam cleaner.

Scrub it with detergent/water/toothbrush. Dig gunk out with toothpicks. Wash again. Towel dry.
Flush liberally with WD 40 to remove water and residual gunk. Shake/blot excess WD 40 off.

I just got my second one of these things. Not only do you need to get them apart to clean for a quick opening, but the thing is on the ball locks with the liners you need to nip off some of the spring to make it much easier to open/close. Especially on the big free balls (lol) it needs to be done. If there was a way to get in there and clip that sucker on the lightweights. Great knifes though. A little pricey. Maybe it's the cheapest way to get pricey alloys.

I have multiple M2LW models and carried/used one in particular daily for about a year and I have never needed to open one up and can middle-finger-flick all of them without any modifications. My basic model is a little stiffer but no big deal. My friend bought one not too long ago and it flicks fine as well. Yeah, the compression lock models are a little "slicker" but these ones flick just fine and have good closure retention. When I have needed to clean one, I essentially do what Bill DeShivs Bill DeShivs describes above. But that's rare.
