Is it ok to use Bar Keepers Friend on the Edge Pro Apex stones to clean?

If not, what do you use?

In my opinion, the best way to clean them is to lap them. You can do it like EP does...

... or on another stone or surface (diamond, sidewalk, etc.). This keeps them flat, and gives you a nice fresh surface to work with.

I don't need to level the stones every time do I?

My set is new and just want to clean the stones.

No... If you keep them wet during use, and I give them a good rinse at the end ( just rub them with my hand under the tap), they'll stay clean enough for several sharpening sessions. When they get to the point this no longer works, that's when I'd lap them.

I use Barkeepers Friend with a Scotch pad on mine after each use. They clean up well.
It's important to unload the stones every now and then anyway and BKF does it well.

Let me start my saying that I'm an OCD machinist. I have a good straight edge that I use to see if the stones need to be flattened. If they do I have two options. I have the glass flattening plate and the loose SiC grains from Ben. Or I use a diamond flattening plate from CKTG.

If they don't need to be flattened I just give them few passes with a diamond EZE-LAP with a similar grit. Chosera stones above 2k I use a nagura stone. I always use a caliper to make sure they're parallel.

I use Barkeeper's Friend with a toothbrush for minor cleanup and the flattening kit from Edge Pro for more serious cleaning and flattening.

Good sharpening,
Dave
