i planned on using a toothbrush, over the sink, with water and.... that's where i'm undecided. what do y'all use to clean the stones on your Edgepro?

thanx

Wow... were we supposed to clean them? Nobody tells me nothin...:(

Do we have to iron them too?

[Maybe I use so much water when I'm sharpening that my stones have never had a chance to get dirty. ;) I know there is just the teenyist amount of black on the 120 stone, more like a dark haze on the white stone. Nothing like the real black streaks I see on ceramic stones. The higher grit stones still look pink and new. But I do really use a heck of a lot of water when I sharpen.

I clean the ceramics with ordinary cleansing powder (Ajax, Barkeeper's Friend, Comet, etc.) and a ScotchBright pot scrubber and they come back to white. That would work for a really gunked up stone too, but so would a flattening brick.]

It doesn't take much to clean them... usually just a quick rinse while rubbing it with your fingers under running water is sufficient. Toothbrush should work just as well, nothing else needed. You should keep them wet enough to avoid loading too much. If they do load up, I've found it better to lap them rather than clean them... it flattens and refreshes the stone and they'll perform much better.

I ditto cbwx34.

Bar Keeper's Friend is great for cleaning ceramics that aren't lapped... like ceramic honing rods.
