Currently my Spyderco military has a bit of paper mush on the G10 handle on both sides (don't ask!), and it seems neigh impossible to get off. How would I go about cleaning it?

Not sure what 'paper mush' means? If referring to loose/exposed fibers in the G10 laminate, there's no paper in it. It's all glass fiber and resin.

Posting a pic might help.

Well this is a bit weird, but its literally mushy wet paper, my knife was around some paper mache. It wont come off of the G10 no matter what I do.

Scrub it with a natural/plastic bristle brush or old toothbrush.

Isn't paper mache water soluble? It's been decades for me, since doing any paper mache in grade school, but I seem to remember my hands cleaned up pretty easily with soap & water (mostly water + scrubbing). Just wondering, if it is, a soak in water (HOT), or hot water and detergent might loosen that up. Some scrubbing with a stiff brush couldn't hurt either.

I went at it with water for a bit, the white dust went away, but large particulate is left, as seen in this picture. Those chunks wont move even if I pick at them with my nail.

The standard cleaning for G10 is supposed to be the "Mr. Clean Magic Eraser".

I haven't tried one myself.

Toothbrush and toothpaste. Or you might runs the scales through the dishwasher. Show them who the boss is.

Really? Last time I used one of those it noticeably lightened the paint it touched and decayed as I scrubbed with it. Im worried to touch that evil thing ever again.

If mine, I think my next step would be an extended soak in warm/hot water, maybe with some detergent (dish detergent). The one thing I remember about the paste from paper mache, it'll eventually come off. Might take some time and scrubbing, but it comes off (assuming it's the old 'recipe' of flour and water). I'm sure the texture of the G10 holds onto it pretty firmly, but I think soaking should eventually loosen it up, if there's still some of the flour paste left there.

The only thing with that is i'd be concerned about rusting. But i'll give it a try!

Assuming your Mili is S30V, I wouldn't worry too much. You might give the knife a 'sink bath' in hot water + dish detergent, scrubbing with a stiff brush. I routinely wash all-carbon-steel knives this way, and rust isn't really an issue, so long as it doesn't stay wet for more than 30 minutes or so (and much longer with a stainless knife). Keep the knife immersed while scrubbing, then rinse in HOT water (~120°F, or whatever your hands can tolerate). Rinsing in HOT water helps warm up the knife, which will speed evaporation of residual moisture afterwards. If/when you can see that it's cleaned sufficiently, then flush the knife internals with isopropyl alcohol or WD-40, to displace any moisture that might be hiding internally.

Like I said I've never used them but you can find videos on youtube of people using these on G10 knife scales, even digicam IIRC.

The very best product I've found to clean G-10 knife handles is "BALLISTOL". It not only cleans G-10 perfectly it truly does rejuvenate and restores it as well. I haven't found any other product that even comes close to BALLISTOL

WD-40 works pretty well for cleaning G-10. Did it couple times, worked as magic)
