Hey all. I picked up a complete Lansky Deluxe Sharpening system, with the 5 stones (coarse to ultra-fine) at a garage sale. It is complete and in good shape, but I would like to clean the stones as they are pretty dirty. What is the best way to go about this? Would the process be the same as cleaning any whetstone?

cheers

Hi,

Stiff natural fiber brush and dish soap works well also. I use shop type hand soap also. What ever type of grease and oil cutting soap is handy. Just let the water dry out of the stone before the next use.

I would lap them. Most that I have seen have not been too flat. Also refreshes the surface which shortens sharpening time. I use a red eraser to keep mine clean. Works for ceramic rods too.

Cheers to all who replied. Still haven't gotten around to cleaning them. It's next on my list :)

I use the old "pinkie" erasers on mine, and when I can find them, I buy the same type of eraser in white, which is an ink eraser.

kelbro - what do you use to lap them? I'm going to have to lap mine sooner or later - they're already showing a little "dip" in some areas.

thx - cpr

Looking a little closer, mine's a pink eraser too.

I use my DMT8C under running water to lap about everything.
