How does everyone clean their Lansky hones?

I just bought a second kit for work and its only now that I notice how smooth my old set is.

It says to just wipe them with a rag in the manual but that doesnt help a whole lot. Any other suggestions???

Cheers,

Dan

Hi Dan,

I use a lansky for work and use all of the stones dry, I just clean them with detergent on a wet paper towel, during and at the end of sharpening. When the stone become glazed or cupped out I just by some cheap and nasty diamond stones (Under $12AUD) and lap the hones on the diamond plates until you have a new surface. I have done it on all hones including the white ceramic, except the black Arkansas which I plan to do this week. By lapping your hones like this, your hone should only be worn out when you can see the plastic holder!

P.S If you have a diamond Lansky kit this won't work!!:D

I haven't done my black Arkansas yet but will soon, this won't be a problem to do as diamond is much harder than any of the hones. You will be surprised at how easily the diamond cuts the stone back.

Until your stone is polished, it will be like using the diamond hone. The diamond hone will leave any surface with a grit smaller than the diamonds grooved with the dia. pattern.
Make sense?
Bill
