Got a question for all the experience around here...

What is the best way to clean the inside of a leather sheath? Whether you have tips for physical or chemical tools, I'd appreciate hearing the advice. The primary concern for me would be dirt and other such debris, but I've been wondering lately how I would be able to clean/disinfect the inside if I were to take a knife hunting in a leather sheath.

I realize kydex may be a better option for cleaning, but I prefer leather. I also realize keeping the knife as clean as possible before putting it in the sheath helps tremendously, but I am going on the assumption that eventually stuff will get in there.

Thanks for the help

Be wary of chemicals or even leather-specific treatments such as saddle soap or neatsfool oil because they can soften the leather and prevent your sheath from securely holding the knife.

Dunno what to do if you already have stuff in there except scrub it out with a toothbrush or small bristle brush.

I treat my sheaths with melted beeswax so it will soak into the leather. This will prevent liquids from soaking into the leather, but you will still need to use a brush on the insides to keep dirt from sticking and possibly scratching your knives.
