...how do you "keep up" your lockback knives? Im trying to get tips for my new buck 501.

Clean, lube, & sharpen as needed, use Q-tips or pipe cleaners to remove any gunk that gets down in the handle, make sure to keep the notch in the blade that the lockbar fits in clean of debris, (a toothpick can help with that)

Pretty much said what I would have.

I carry a 501 daily. My routine is very quick and simple:

1. Open the knife and wipe blade down with my t-shirt
2. use a toothpick (q-tip is too wide) to loosen any visible gunk inside or on the tang face
3. blow dust and lint out with a Giotto Rocket or air duster

Good as new :) Blowing dust out with a rocket or air duster works well with the 501 because it's a very "open" and simple folder with an exposed spring
