Cleaning micarta scales discoloration

I placed gun oil on the pivots and screws on a CQC 8, and those areas have turned dark from the gun oil. I've read about several different ways, i.e. dishwasher soap and water, denatured alcohol, brake cleaner, etc. What is the best way to remove gun oil from the green micarta scales from an Emerson and getting it back to its original color? In the future, how do I prevent this again if I wanted to lube and protect the areas? Thanks.

If your knife has Nylatron washers you don't need any oil or lube at all. Nt sure why you used il elsewhere, but it really doesn't serve any purpose. As far as cleaning off the Micarta, take the slabs off and wash them in Dawn dish soap and scrub them with a brush of some sort. Let them air dry and see how the look afterwards.

Try a little Simple Green on a clean rag first, with out taking apart... If they'r still stained, like RedDevil sez... Dish soap and air dry

Hey corbon, I have some encouraging news for you. I got a nice drop of gun oil right on the tan canvas micarta scales of my Izula II about a month ago. I didn't care too much because its a utility user but still it still irked me a bit to see it. I store that particular knife in the side pocket of a canvas backpack that I carry around in my car, etc. I didn't use it for about two weeks but when I pulled it out last night, lo and behold the oil mark was completely gone. I did a double take actually. While im not 100% sure, I think it may have something to do with the knife being stored in a dry very hot environment (canvas backpack baking for 8 hours a day in the car) paired with the natural capillary action of the micarta material. It took some time but it went away on its own. If all else fails, give it some time in a hot, dry, absorbent environment and see what happens. Good luck man!

Thanks for the replies. I emailed Emerson knives, and Mary is going to ask Mr. Emerson. I'll post the reply when I get it.
