I saw a few old Buck 110's at a sale in not so great shape. Ink on wood and very tarnished brass.

Is is OK to use brasso on the brass?

Brasso, Mothers, Wrights, Flitz, Whatever floats your boat...all will work just fine :)

Buffing wheel, if marked up some various grits of sandpaper then the buffing wheel.

I opened the gift tin to find brass in this condition

I like that treated wadding that comes in a can. Just rip a bit off and polish with it, no mess no fuss. I forget what its called. Conversely, I hate using Brasso.

Its called Never Dull and I swore by it for years. It works well but I never realized how hard you had to scrub with it. Liquid polish like Wrights is literally 10 times easier for same or better result.

Can't tell you how many cans of Brasso I used to polish my brass - from belt buckles to shields to pips. The stuff works.

Jack, I agree totally that it works. It just smells like ass and gives me a migraine!

Mothers chrome polish works the best, IMO You can lightly sand the wool scales as well. They are unfinished (not sealed) wood. There isn't too many things you can't do to make a 110 look great.

Yeah, I sent my wife for some brasso and they didnt have any. She brough this back, and I was slightly miffed but figgered I'd give it a try. Just cant believe how well it works and how much easier it is. I did about 15, 110s one day to clean off after sitting in display for about a year, took me about the time it would take to never dull 1 or 2 with heavy patina.

I like Simichrome polish for all my brass components. I have found that Rennaisance wax will delay the tarnishing but doesn't stop it.

im of the opinion that a 110 looks good with or without a polish!:) personally i just let mine go and look however its gonna look, i only have my 1 and a camillus clone, but i have been carrying them quite a bit lately. Anybody else like the look of brass with a patina?

Ivan, I like them polished but don't mind the color they change to after. I buy my knives off the bay so they need some care to get them in shape then I let them go.

I dont worry about the ones I'm carrying as normal handling and pocket time keep them ok. Its the ones that sit that need(IMHO) a shine from time to time.

I too like the color of the brass after a bit of handling and carrying, when it shifts to a darker gold color.

Still, it is exceedingly hard to beat the massive and gleaming good looks of a freshly polished and oiled old battle tank like the Three-Dot 110.
