cleaning out blood and scales?

Chris,

I don't think that you will ruin the knife in any way. Just rinse it with water well if it gets gunked up, that should usually take care of it. I personally wouldn't take any knife apart unless it's absolutely necessary. If you're out in the field, just use it, I will bet that it will work fine. When you get back home, and it's completely packed with fish/deer guts and blood, just rinse it in hot water. Like all things a little maintenance will go a long way. Basically, if it gets dirty, clean it. Heck, you could probably run it through the dish washer. The G-10 scales might look "cloudy". You can fix this by rubbing them down with some oil. I've also found that Tuff-Cloth works well when the G-10 gets a little "dry". (for lack of a better term). Remember, these knives are made to be used, and not made to be a hassle to the owner.

Emerson knives are MADE to be able to disassembel and clean. You will not void a warantee if you do that.

Take it appart, wash the parts down with warm water and if you need it, some soap. reassembel and lube with a light oil. It will be fine.
