How do you go about cleaning out the nail knick. I can use a dental probe to get any gunk out but the steel inside the knick is still a different colour from the blade steel after polishing. What do you use to get it clean?
Thanks
Steve

Most I have seen are left with scale inside to leave it dark. I have never done it, but would a brass wire wheel on a dremel work without making marks that cant be polished out easily? Maybe a loose linen buff with a coarser compound, also on a dremel?

The small cutout in a folding knife, like a slip joint, for your thumb nail to deploy the blade.

Make a small sanding block to fit the nick, cut some small strips of sand paper and sand the color out before you put the finish on the blade.

I just polish with 800 grit paper and heat treat afterwards to get a dark nail. If I wanted a polished clean looking nail I would nail nick after heat treat or apply Browning's antiscale mud before heat treat.
